Learning Journey to SaRAWak, Malaysia

Talking about my best/ worst school memory, I do not really know which one to write about because there are just too many of them. Even though I’ve left my primary school, all those memories that had kept me company for so many years will always lie deep down in the back of my mind. It has been a long time since I’m able to sit down, take a good sip of hot chocolate and slowly recall the wonderful things that I’ve encountered in my primary school… …When I was in primary five, my school organised an overseas trip to Sarawak, Malaysia. Almost everyone in our class wanted to go, but eventually, only some were chosen and I’m one of those lucky ones. Soon, the day for us to set off has finally arrived. I was truly elated and so was everyone else when we found out that we’re placed in the same group.
We headed for the airport in Kuala Lampur and took a plane to Sarawak. The plane ride was quite smooth and we arrived at Sarawak after some time. First, we checked into the hotel and took a thirty minutes rest .The ostentatious hotel is a five star. The hotel room was nicely decorated and it was facing out towards the sea.
Next stop, the Sarawak cultural village, there, we learnt about the different houses and the cultures of different tribes. We saw the traditional dance performances, how the people used the poisonous arrow tips to hunt for animals and lots more.
After the visit, we had seafood for dinner. It was mouth watering as the juice from the meat oozed out as I bit it and chewed it in my mouth. We had crab, fish, prawn, squid and we also ordered a few dishes vegetables and had mango pudding for desert.
Finally, it’s time for us to return to the hotel. We bathed and changed into our pajamas, the hotel room was big, there was two queen size beds, four single beds, just enough for everyone. We played Uno and also truth or dare. The next thing is the most memorable incident; all of us had our lights off and were ready to go to bed, when one of my classmates came up with a mischievous idea which is to scare the other two classmates sleeping in the other room. We got our torch lights ready and knocked on the door. After a few minutes, we heard the door handle turning and we hid in our “hideouts”. “One, two and three….”whispered my classmate creepily. “BOO!” we shouted and all of us shined our torch lights at the two “victims” when the door was fully opened. True enough, they screamed their guts out, traumatized. Upon realizing that we’re the ones behind this, all of us fell into a heap of laughter. I will never forget it!

Personal Recount

Worst school day.

Even till now, I have yet to forget that worst day in school. In the morning, while I was going to school, it was raining heavily. I thought I had put my umbrella in my bag so I happily wore my shoes and went out to take the bus to school. Since I was already a primary five student, my parents decided that I was ready to go to school on my own.
I reached the bus-stop in time to catch the bus. On the way, I did not take my umbrella out as there is shelter all the way. I hopped onto the bus thinking what I shall have for lunch and wonder what the teacher would be teaching that day. I took out my phone and ear-phones to listen to some music as it was a long journey.
‘Ding dong!’ the bus-stopping sign was shown on the board. I was ready to get off and I searched my bag for my umbrella.
Before I even got ready my umbrella, the bus came to a halt. It had arrived at the bus-stop and I have not got my umbrella yet! I squeezed my way through the crowd and to the door.
‘Today is so crowded on the bus!’ I thought.
As I reached the door, an old lady accidentally fell on me and I was pushed down the stairs and I fell on my bottom on the wet ground.
I was so annoyed. I calmed down quickly and got on the bus to tap my card and came out of the bus again.
‘Since it was an old lady, I shan’t be bothered with her anymore,’ these words came to my mind.
As soon as I got off the bus, I realised that I had forgotten to take my umbrella out and now I was drenched from top to toe! I hurriedly went into the shelter. I tried drying myself but I failed. I ran to school, slipping down a few times but as I was getting late, I pulled myself up and ran to school.
Fortunately, I was in time for the assembly in class. I walked to my class and everyone was laughing at me, thinking that I was a clown.
My hair was wet and strands of hair were dangling out, my school uniform was wet and crumbled, my shoes were wet and socks too. My bag was worse. The books inside were…
Luckily, it was not wet. I fumbled back to my seat. My friends all laughed but they were kind enough to lend me a helping hand. I was only dried after break time ends. Teachers that came in to teach, asked what had happened to me. I was, of course, frustrated with answering all the questions.
Finally, it was dismissal time. The sun was burning hot on the ground. I could feel all the water evaporating from the ground. I went home straight away.
What an unlucky day. Unfortunately, that was not the end of it. I found my umbrella in my sister’s bag as I have put in the wrong bag and I fell sick the next day.
A broken friendship which broke my heart…

It was a typical Friday, and my friends and I decided to stay back in school, to choose the secondary school we would go to. So, after school, we went to the canteen and got down to business, discussing on our future school. It was a hard decision and squabbles began to break out - small ones. I was seriously getting pissed off. They kept insisting I would do so well for PSLE and that they would do very badly so we would not be able to go to the same secondary school, I know they were merely joking, but I really didn’t feel like wasting time on making jokes like that. I was getting tired of their jokes, I admit I was childish, but I still stood up and stomped off angrily.

I know they were pissed with me for being so childish and they ignored me after that, never bothering to care about how I felt. When I returned, they both merely sat there reading manga looking as if nothing had happened. I could not stand the pain anymore; I got up and said really harsh words and left. I couldn’t bear it anymore. On my way home I cried I really cried. I know I was never what they would call the ‘perfect friend’, I always felt left out when in their company. They would always do things together, never bothering to include me. The pain in my heart was unbearable. They always laughed at me when I faced problems, making me seem like a fool.

When I returned home, I came across this song: BoulevardI of Broken Dreams
I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes...

At that very moment, I felt very lonely. All happy thoughts seemed to have evaporated. And the last few day of school? We spent it hating each other…
Even though our quarrels have been forgiven, the scars will be present in my heart to make sure my loneliness is not forgotten…

QInglian's best school memory

Best school memory
It was April fool’s day; and so, we decided to play a prank on our teacher.
This is what we planned: first, we write a note telling the teacher that we have been shifted to the fourth floor. Then, some of us went to the toilet behind our class; some went to the toilet opposite our class; and some hid at the corner of the class and I chose to hide at the corner of the class.
We heard our teacher’s voice and also another teacher’s voice, our teacher was shocked to see that note, and said that, “But I’ve not received any e-mail saying that they have been shifted to the fourth floor! Or is it a prank, because my two other classes also played an April fool’s prank on me.”
We knew that he was suspecting us… We also heard the other teacher saying, “Have fun!” At that time, the people in our class is laughing, but of course silently as we did not want our teacher to find out that we were in the class. Then, there was a silent for a few minutes as we did not hear our teacher’s voice so we kept very quiet so as to listen for his voice more clearly, but we still could not hear his voice. We wondered what happened, then some of us “peeped” and see where he was. And we saw him asking the some of the pupils from the class behind our class if they knew where we were, but we could not hear what the pupils replied. At that moment, we laughed quietly again. After a while, we could not see our teacher in sight, so we guessed that he went up the fourth floor to look for us. Two of us went to each of the toilet to tell the pupils that hid in the toilets to come back to class. But before our class monitress could go up to tell our teacher that it was a prank, we already saw him walking back towards our class.
The moment he stepped into our class, we shouted, “HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY!” He did not do anything to us, just said that it was a good prank, just that he was not totally into believing it as his another two classes already played a prank on him. But we still had fun! That is what April fool’s day is all about! He also said it was our form teacher that told him it was a prank by us when he was going up to the fourth floor. Upon hearing that, the whole class went, “Aw! What a party pooper!” Our teacher also said how the other classes played a prank on him…
I guess I would not forget this April fool’s day prank… …

Qinglian's Favourite Primary School Memory

My favourite Primary school memory is my school's graduation night. My school sort of asked some company whom is in charge of media or something... They takes charge of the sound system like the background muic and the microphones... We felt honoured to have these excellent systems. My teacher said that we deserved it, as we had put in a lot of effort for both the PSLE and the graduation night's performance. Our class prepared a short song... Some sang on stage while one of my friend played the piano, as for me, I just helped to flip the music notes for my friend who is playing the piano. It wasn't an easy job as the timing must be very good if not, my friend will play the wrong notes... But we still had a very good and memorable time together.

Choong Ying's favourite primary school memory.

When I was in my primary school, everyone seem so friendly and nice. Teachers are so caring and their constant reminders made us score well in our PSLE.

I remembered one time though . I was in a mixed school and I feel that boys were just either plain weird or irritating and annoying. There were two boys especially. They were nick-named the funniest and most playful ones in our class. They were throwing bags and playing with each other. The bag belongs to another boy. That boy (whose bag is his) did not really care what happen. Then the bag hit a girl. The girl was very brave and she did not cry, but although she did not cry, another girl who was her best friend, stood up went to the boy’s place and smack the boy hard. The weird thing is the boy cried. To me, boys are really weird. When girls are being bullied, we did not cry while boys do.

That is why there is a saying called ‘Girls rules’. (:

Joyce's favourite primary school memory

My favourite memory in primary school was the last few days of school. We had a graduation party and each class was supposed to come out with a performance. Our class came up with a skit on one of our character values, love. Our music teacher also choreographed a mass dance and we spent a lot of time practising and preparing for it, but luckily all our efforts did not go down the drain as it did not end up as a disaster as we thought it would. After our performance, we went to have our food. My friends and I were chatting happily but time passes really fast. Soon, it was time to go home. We hugged each other and took pictures with our friends and teachers. We also exchanged hand phone numbers so that we could keep in contact even after we graduate. To me, this is my favourite memory in primary school! <3

Xue Ling's favourite memory in primary school

My favourite memory in primary school was the last few weeks in school, when the they organised a sandwich/salad making competition. It was really fun and we got into a group of seven and decided to make sandwiches. We put bacon, cabbage etc ,each one of us thought of an ingredient to put in the sandwich and it turned out tasting wonderfully delicious.I couldn't get enough of it.We practised and practised ,hoping that we may win the competition.Sadly, at the end of the day, we didn't get to win .But through this competition, our friendship became stronger.

Audrey's favourite primary school memory

For me, I would have to say that it was during the post-PSLE period. We went to three different places to take photos for a video. Those 3 days were very tiring and long, but I will definitely treasure it. We learnt more about each other and I really had time to bond with them. The sentosa trip, was the most enjoyable. We went to underwater world and the teacher had to practically 'drag' us out, it was just AWESOME! Some other things that were fun was... NO MORE HOMEWORK!!! the days were much more relaxing and there was time to go out and catch up with friends, we were FREE-or so my teacher says, I still remember the time she called us her POWs. This post-PSLE period was just something that helped me bond with my friends, to understand them better. It offered as a closure. Yes, I have to admit that I miss them, but at least I had this time, to really just laugh our hearts our and 'soak in the sun'. Thinking back of all these memories, there are no words on how to describe it, but I would just like to say that it was AWESOME!

P.S. I miss my uniformXD

Joyce's memory association

Mr Neil asked us to write a personal recount/memory association on either the words, tree/pet/water. I chose pet. Whenever I see fishes, I will always remember the time when i had a guppy. But sadly, it died...
I remembered when I was 5 years old, my grandfather gave me a guppy for my birthday present. I was very excited as that was the first time I ever had a pet. I prepared the aquarium together with my mother, and we poured a lot of water into the huge aquarium. Then, carefully, we placed the guppy into the aquarium. Lastly, we observed it for a while and the guppy started to swim about freely in the water. My mother and I were very excited as we finally had a pet of our own.
From then on, I took good care of the guppy and observed it whenever I had free time. But sadly. one day, when I came home from school, I found it floating upside down, with its stomach facing up. I would always remember this pet as it was my first pet and it brought me lots of joy.
